When my son died at 17, I lost my life. My addiction escalated. My mental health deteriorated. CPC’s day program in Aberdeen helps guide me. The members in this program are like family to me. We talk about our mental illness, but it does not define us.
CPC has given me so much–there is nothing like it. I feel like I am giving back now too as new members enter the program, I feel like a mentor. I’ve been where they are. I’ve been clean and sober for 9 years. I am so thankful.
It meant so much to me to have CPC write a letter to my new doctor to explain my treatment for addiction and depression. When I think back to my entire recovery journey, I can’t help but feel super grateful. I entered the doors of CPC a little over 6 years ago, not too sure if I even wanted to be clean. I did know I no longer wanted to live how I was living. CPC introduced compassion, love, acceptance and integrity to me. After a short time, I finally felt like someone understood me. CPC treated me like I was a human being something I never felt with any other treatment provider. My weekly individuals were catered to me, and super powerful. The weekly groups gave me the tools I needed to really start my process of recovery. They taught me to identify with the other members feelings and not compare situations, it taught me it was okay to speak about my truth and I wasn’t alone. I realize today that without this foundation I could never be where I am today.
Before connecting with CPC, it took me years to find someone who I could talk to, and CPC has been great, my therapist has patience and compassion.
